Roses 01:23
Just for you, just for you.
2.
Tears fall, on the factory floor. But the boss tells us to clean it up. Then he walked out the door he came in. And I hoped I'd never see him again. I take a pill that says TV, it keeps me smiling. As far as anybody can see. Turning wax into gold, on a schedule. Sleeping underneath machinery. So I walked out the door I came in. And I said, "I'll never see you again."
3.
If you're always making promises, that you can't seem to keep. There is probably something ugly, that's behind an honest face. You don't cook for anyone else, only feed yourself. Something heavy, while you're sleeping. Just to keep your dreams away. Well they can't haunt me, if I'm always staying awake. You don't lie to anyone else, only to yourself. In love with everyone else, better keep that to yourself.
4.
Listening 03:13
I remember when. . . In your quiet way, you were always listening. Don't have much to say, because you were always thinking. I didn't want to go to work, you didn't want to grow too old. So I quit my job, and you left the world. A smile on your face, we hadn't seen for ages. Overtook you. Back to your old self, you were always so quiet. But now you're silent.
5.
Mono Mittens 03:33
You didn't say it would be easy or hard, you didn't say anything at all. Wrapping your hands around an unsuspecting plant outside. The house is covered in vines, but no one has a knife. Sharp enough to cut through time. I still have your missing glove, and I'm not gonna bring it back. Passed out in the dirt, in the comfort of the yard. Making yourself dizzy in the sun. If not for the little things, would there be any reason to live? Or at least, a reason not to die. I still have your missing glove, and I'm not gonna bring it back. 'Cause you owe me that.
6.
Daisies 02:55
Working for the man, daisies in the trash can. Ate them on your lunch break, every day. Taking a seat to make a stand, washing the bloody dirt from your hands. You dig hard for it, so why are you still so fucking poor? Sleeping on a stranger's floor. Honesty is a word, that you pretend to believe. And act accordingly. I want to shove the flowers down your throat, so when the sun hits you'll choke. And finally stop talking. Drank the water they offered you at the door, but you quickly fell to the floor. And nobody knew your name. But it's not them to blame, you're a liar 'till the end.
7.
Good Name 03:08
Even if the score is even, it's still sore. I'm sleeping in the street, if you ever need to find me. Or if you're just feeling mean. Patterns on the wall, always warn me if you're going to call. The opposite of love, smoking in the sun. Taking bad advice, from a dull-eyed sunken mess. Who follows me around, all around the house. And burns my good name all over town.
8.
Lying beside you, in our bed. Drinking soda and cigarettes. Could there be a sweeter death? You're having a bad dream, and half in the bag. Smoking good old Virginia Brown. There's nothing to do in my hometown, I stare at the moon and drive around. She doesn't speak, but she calms me down. My good friend, Virginia Brown. My good friend, Virginia Brown.
9.
Nightly Calm 02:23
Close enough to call home, my life has changed in so many little ways. No longer tied to a tree, on a short leash of my devotion. I am free to do as I please, no one to cherish me.
10.
Sick 02:13
Everyone I know, keeps getting sick. Clutching to a rosary, reciting prayers. Snowed inside your hospital bed, but you never let them win. And they never have, so they never will. Even in death, and permanent comas. It's still the same. The body grows, and then decays.
11.
Late for work again. On the way, but I stop to smell the roses. Knuckles turning red, I'm strained by my own lack of purpose. Inside the valley, the trees are breathing. The spiders build silk roads to guide me. It's a perfect day, so why are you so tired? Dipped your boots in the lake, the fish can hear you crying. And if I'm far away, there's always a reason. Something dragging me, across the haunted country. ( moonlight and roses . . . )
